I didn’t start in tech with a plan. My first IT job was on a help desk, answering phones, resetting passwords, and figuring out why the printer on the third floor never worked. It wasn’t glamorous, but it taught me how businesses actually run on technology, and how stressful it is when that technology breaks.
Over the next few years I moved into systems administration, then infrastructure, and eventually cloud engineering. Every step came with the same problem: the information I needed was scattered, overly theoretical, or written for people who already knew the answers.
So I started writing things down. First for myself, then for coworkers, and eventually on YouTube. Martin Talks Tech began as a way to share the practical lessons I wish someone had taught me earlier: which certifications matter, how to talk about your experience in interviews, and how to keep systems running when things go wrong.
Today the channel and this site are where I share honest, experience-based advice for anyone building a career in IT, whether you’re just starting out, switching careers, or leveling up into cloud and security.
